The DSP Technician performs a wide variety of R&D tasks, such as execution of DSP experiments, observation and recording of results, maintenance of laboratory equipment and inventories, and preparation of experimental protocols and reports. She/he may participate in the design of the downstream process and contribute to the design of experiments for DSP-related studies. 

The DSP Technician is responsible for the following: 

  • Preparation of the process solutions, lab equipment, study records
  • Execution of operational work with complete traceability
  • Management of work area, equipment, materials and consumables
  • Reporting of process development experiments: collection, analysis and documentation of results 
  • Creation of process-related documentation

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of lab and equipment used for operational work 
  • Monitoring and management of stocks of consumables and reagents specific to the project 
  • Maintenance of a clean and safe working area by following established housekeeping and safety routines
  • Carry out all operations associated with DSP processes including: 
  • Preparation and filtration of buffers
  • Preparation of single use manifolds for execution of experimental work
  • Clarification and filtration of harvests
  • Ultrafiltration and diafiltration of harvests
  • Preparative chromatography on harvest
  • Execution of experiments for evaluation of new DSP technologies
  • Contribution to selection and implementation of the most efficient single-use technologies for an innovative continuous production line
  • Management of documentation related to experiments
  • Results collection and analysis
  • Traceability of operational work through recording of all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and accountability
  • Compliance with internal quality standards applicable to the field of activities 
  • Identification and reporting of deviations from standard operating procedures and of unexpected events through initiation of related investigations
  • Support of corrective and preventive actions related to deviations and unexpected events
  • Contribution to general lab activities (housekeeping and maintenance)
  • Generation of quality assurance documentation within remit of activities (procedures, work instructions, templates, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedical Sciences or another relevant Life Sciences degree
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in downstream process development (if Bachelor’s degree); no prior experience required (if Master’s degree)
  • R&D experience in another field of science related to bioproduction (e.g. USP, analytical sciences) is a significant plus
  • Hands-on experience with common purification technologies (clarification, TFF, chromatography, filtration) and their associated equipment; experience with state-of-the-art technologies and equipment is a significant plus

  • Familiarity with Akta purification and/or TFF systems is a plus
